Portrait Fernand Piet

Fernand Piet was born in Paris in 1869. He was the great-grandson of Charles Mozin, a marine painter. He was a pupil of Eugène Carrière, Fernand Cormon and Alfred Roll. He exhibited his paintings and engravings of landscapes in Brittany, Holland and the Midi, as well as genre scenes of parks, children and markets, to independent painters and French artists. He also produced a large number of female nudes and rare seascapes. His family's material wealth and his successful stock market speculations enabled him to lead a social life with his friends Lucien Victor Guirand de Scevola, Edmond Lempereur and Jean-Louis Forain.

In 1905, he was vice-president of the Salon des Artistes Indépendants alongside Paul Signac. Fernand Piet features in the prestigious Shchukin collection with a remarkable market scene in Brest, dated 1899.
