Polychrome earthenware. Circa 1930. Small firing defect on the restored base as well as a lack of glaze on the cap.

Without the title of “heiress”, this beautiful, proud Breton woman with her haughty bearing would be no more than a pretty female representation. But here, the artist seeks to show that in a patriarchal society, the status of heiress gives these women a unique decision-making power that sets them apart from the rest. Independent of men to ensure their livelihood, they enjoy the freedom to choose a husband, or even do without one altogether. With this work, the artist makes a strong gesture in favor of feminism.
