Saint-Yves

Rare polychrome earthenware, circa 1949.

Saint Yves is shown with a book bearing the words ‘justice et charité’ (justice and charity), the cover of which is decorated in slight relief with the arms of the Kermartin family, surname of Saint Yves (1253-1303). The Saint is standing upright, and at his feet is the cathedral of St Tugdual de Tréguier, a sign of ‘Charity’, and a pair of scales and a sword, signs of ‘Justice’. The rectangular base is titled ‘SAINT YVES’ in relief on the front and ‘Jean Boulbain prêtre’ on the back.
